Fall Mini Sessions Are Coming!

September 14, 2015

Hello all!

Fall mini sessions are coming to San Diego… WHERE in San Diego is still a little up in the air as the expected El Niño has could certainly dampen the situation. We will do our best to persevere and still get those Fall portraits done though, right? I’d love for you to join me! Please email me if you’re interested.

A to Z

September 3, 2015

I had the pleasure of photographing these sweet boys this past weekend. I’ve met big brother (A) a few times and we took pictures last spring, but I was excited to finally see him as a brother and get his sweet little brother in front of my camera for the first time. Z is just over 7 weeks and I was so impressed with how well he did!

It’s definitely a bit more challenging to get two wee ones (A is recently 2) and especially when the baby is past that total milk drunk newborn stage. They just don’t love being “posed” as much and they’re certainly more alert. :)

Thank you for a wonderful afternoon! A to Z and certainly complete. <3

I once wrote a post featuring Amy Grant’s “Oh How the Years Go By” about how my little cousins were growing up too fast (newsflash: they still are).

Never was that more clear though than when I went to the preschool this week for school pictures.

Wait, first, let’s backtrack. I never wrote about last year’s pictures as it was such a whirlwind between shoots, proofs, orders, and delivery all in an incredibly short between-holidays time frame. It was incredible. I loved every moment and I should have taken the time to sum it all up after all was said and done.

I am beyond grateful that the school invited me to return this year. I feel so blessed and it makes my heart burst that the parents were so happy with the pictures of their little ones. Truly. That recognition of “you captured her spirit” or “that’s SO him” is exactly why I do what I do. I once read that “taking pictures is savoring life intensely, every hundredth of a second.” To know that I found the hundredth of a second someone else savored, it is beyond rewarding.

So, back to how time flies. I spent two wonderful days with the kids at the preschool last fall and caught glimpses of them here and there a few other times when I was picking something up or dropping something off. As a result, the memories I have of these children are almost entirely of that first moment when they stepped in front of my camera – those photos that I stared at and edited for weeks after.

And then, I returned. Nearly one year later and all of these adorable, familiar faces greeted me – familiar, but not. Familiar, but much more grown. It was wonderful to see them again: to see how they changed, grown more confident, and to meet younger siblings too. Of course, it was also lovely to meet so many new little ones. Delights, each and every one.

Here’s a sneak peek of then and now. I figured since I didn’t post last year, I do a little side-by-side action for you. Last year is on the left and this year is on the right.

Finding Balance

July 18, 2012

I’m taking a moment to reflect in my preparation to teach a balance track tomorrow morning… to find my own calm in the storm and gather balance in my life. You can find my reflection, and more pictures, here on my other blog.

Tea For Two

July 12, 2012

She takes her hand. She watches over her. She loves her dearly.
She’s the big sister after all.

But in a moment, the full name is yelled out followed by “that’s mine!” She is still young herself…
a big little girl.

She takes her hand. She looks up to her. She loves her dearly.
She’s the baby sister after all.

And in a moment, tears erupt because big sister has taken off down the trail without her.
She wants to be big too.

Big Sister. Little Sister. Forever Friends. Bonded.

Awfully Big Adventure

November 25, 2011

Last Sunday, I met this beautiful family at the entrance to Balboa Park Trails and we nearly had to call it a day before we even got started. The drizzle began, the clouds in the sky threatened, and the forecast said RAIN. Yikes!

But it wasn’t raining just yet and I am so thankful that the H family was willing to adventure down the trail with their two small boys. I had so much fun wandering the trail with you all. Watching the boys swing, pick flowers, find rocks, and race across bridges. They are a joy… and the two of your are wonderful parents. And S? I still maintain you are a total rock star adventuring through the trail, over rocky creek beds, and up marshy hills in those heels. Seriously… especially when all of your boys were equipped with sensible shoes. :) But, with two curious and energetic boys, I’m sure you have many, many more adventures to come.

A Time to Dance

March 14, 2011

Here’s the extended preview of the lovely little Jocelynne from earlier this month. She’s a fantastic dancer and just a gem to be around. Thank you again Christa and Jocelynne; I had a wonderful time with the two of you.

The weather could not have been more beautiful on Saturday afternoon when we ventured down to the Balboa Park Trail from Hillcrest to take pictures. Jocelynne was an excellent model and I can’t wait to show you more. We had so much fun… and what a find that trail was! It was so beautiful and green from the recent rain. Here’s the sneak peek – more to come!

Sweet Sisterhood

February 13, 2011

I’ve never seen her more nervous or more cautious as when we ask her to hold her baby sister and pretend to sleep. “Just close your eyes,” we said. Very quietly and with as little movement as possible, she told us, “no.”  Her baby sister slept soundly on her chest – comforted and comfortable in her big sister’s embrace. She’s already an amazing big sister, at a very young three years old, and I’m sure she will watch over her sweet, beautiful baby always.

Last week, I previewed these two beautiful girls. Here’s the extended sneak peak.

Birthday Week

February 5, 2011

My boss’ family celebrated a birthday week this week. Her really adorable daughter, you know the one, turned three earlier this week. She’s such a funny, awesome little girl. Just a few days before her birthday, my boss had another adorable daughter. She is such a good, sweet little baby.

The pearls were her great-grandma’s pearls and you’ll see a rosary in an upcoming sneak peak that was great-grandma’s as well. This sweet little one is named for great-grandma and it was wonderful being able to incorporate that into the session.

I had so much fun visiting with them and meeting the new little one. Can’t wait to see you all again! Here’s a little sneak peek.
